Nobel Defends Handke Prize replying to Kosovo Academy
Nobel Committee defended its decision to award the 2019 literature prize to author Peter Handke, who expressed support for Slobodan Milosevic. The Swedish Academy answering a letter to the President of the Kosovo Academy of Sciences and Arts, Mehmet Kraja, who asked cancellation of the prize, as defended it decision considering Handke’s pro-Serb stance during the 1990s wars and his sympathies for Serbian wartime leader Slobodan Milosevic.
In its letter the Swedish Academy answered Kraja saying that when Handke was awarded the prize, “the ambition was to celebrate his extraordinary literally work, not his persona.” Further the Swedish Academy justifies the decision saying the prize was awarded in full accordance with the purpose expressed in the will of Alfred Nobel. /GazetaExpress/
