Kosovo’s outgoing prime minister Ramush Haradinaj said Thursday that due to early election engagements, he will not attend the Visegrad Four (V4) Summit and the Western Balkans countries in Prague set to be held on 12 September.

Cancellation of Haradinaj’s visit came after statements of Czech President Milos Zeman who during a visit to Belgrade on Wednesday said that he will ask Constitutional authorities to consider withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo. In a Facebook post on Thursday, Haradinaj said that he informed Czech Republic prime minister, Andrej Babis on such a decision, Gazeta Express reports. However, Haradinaj said that Kosovo highly appreciates commitment of the Czech Republic towards Western Balkans and the European perspective of the region.

Media have reported on Wednesday that Kosovo has cancelled its participation in the September 12 summit of the prime ministers from the Visegrad Four (V4) group and the Western Balkans countries in Prague in reaction to statements of Czech President Milos Zeman made in Serbia. Adressing media after a meeting with Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic, Zeman said he will want to meet Czech constitutional officials to discuss the possibility of the revocation of the recognition of independent Kosovo by Prague.

The aim of the V4+Western Balkans summit in Prague is to enhance cooperation between the two regions, which Prague has set at one of the goals of its one-year V4 presidency that began in July 1. The Czech Republic supports Western Balkans states EU accession efforts. /GazetaExpress/
