Kosovo President Thaci to be questioned by Hague prosecutors on Monday

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci confirmed that on Monday he will travel to the Hague after he was summoned by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) for questioning.

On 24 June, the SPO issued a statement saying that its prosecutors filed a ten-count Indictment with the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) for the Court’s consideration, charging Thaci, and PDK leader Kadri Veseli, and others with war crimes.

Thaci in a Facebook post on Wednesday said that Kosovo although victim of the war has cooperated with the judiciary, reminding that many members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) have been interviewed by the Hague prosecutors in Kosovo and abroad.

Further Kosovo president called on citizens to face these challenges jointly as many ex-KLA members will face the international justice. He said that trust in institutions is necessary for Kosovo to become part of NATO, European Union and maintaining eternal friendship with the United States of America. /GazetaExpress/

Dear citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,

In the last two decades, many members of the Kosovo Liberation Army have faced the international justice of UNMIK, ICTY, EULEX as well as Kosovo justice.

Kosovo, even though a victim, cooperated with international justice in dealing with allegations of war crimes.

In the last two years, many former co-combatants have been interviewed by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, inside and outside of Kosovo.

Dear citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,

I would like to share with you that on Monday I will also travel to The Hague, invited by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office, to be interviewed.

While my compatriots as well as me will face international justice with dignity and integrity, I call upon you to stand united in dealing with the challenges that our country is facing.

Civic unity, inter-ethnic coexistence, institutional stability, trust in the institutions, are necessary for Kosovo to make its vision to be part of NATO, of the European Union and to maintain eternal friendship with the United States of America, a reality.
