Kosovo Justice Minister announces vetting in judiciary

Kosovo Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, has announced that vetting in judiciary will start soon and she called the representatives of civil society and institutions to propose their experts who will be tasked to draft a concept paper on vetting process.

Haxhiu attended Tuesday the debate “Rule of Law in Kosovo. Which are priorities of the new Government?” organized by the Group for Legal and Political Studies (GLPS). She said that vetting is aimed at retuning citizens confidence in judiciary. “We have already established contacts with the Committee on legislation, and representatives of civil society, and asked them that by Thursday to propose their representatives who will be tasked to draft a concept paper on this issue,” she said.

“There are professional people within judicial system, no doubt about that, but there is no dilemma on whether there should be a vetting or not,” Haxhiu said. She said that the vetting mechanism should be external and internal.

Haxhiu also mentioned the legal initiative on confiscation of unjustifiable acquired assets saying that this process in compliance with the Constitution and the European Union directives. /GazetaExpress/
