In February Kosovo will get 100 thousand vaccines through Covax, the Ministry of Health has confirmed. Officials say the first doses of vaccines will be distributed in February without providing any date.

The first contingent of COVID-19 vaccines will have 100.800 doses of the “AstraZeneca” vaccines known for their over 90 percent efficiency and is taken in two doses.

The caretaker Government of Kosovo in cooperation with the National Institute of Public Health have drafted an action plan of COVID-19 vaccination, which will start implementing once the vaccines are brought to Kosovo. The first vaccines will be distributed to the most vulnerable groups, namely people over 65 years and healthcare employees.

Many European countries are considering issuing of the vaccination pass or passport which is documentation proving that you have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Also Kosovo is expected to follow these steps, and jointly with the vaccination authorities will start providing individuals with COVID-19 vaccine passport. The Ministry of Health told Zeri that Kosovars will be equipped with the vaccination pass after they receive two doses of the vaccine. “According to the plan on immunization against COVID-19, each vaccinated person will be granted a pass or whatever it will be called as a documentation proving that they have taken both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,” the Ministry of Health told Zeri.

Kosovo Minister of Health, Armend Zemaj, said that they expect Kosovo to return to normality by summer, even though it is among the last countries in Europe which has not started the vaccination. Kosovo since March 2020 has registered 62,548 COVID-19 cases with 1,526 confirmed deaths caused by the virus. /GazetaExpress/
