Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli has been summoned for questioning by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague, which is investigating crimes committed in Kosovo during and after the war. A source told Gazeta Express that Veseli is travelling to The Hague, through Ljubljana Airport.
A source within the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Gazeta Express that Veseli who was senior commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) will be questioned by The Hague prosecutors in his capacity as a suspect. Veseli’s office has not confirmed the summons. Reportedly Veseli on Friday afternoon has boarded an airplane from Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari” to Ljubljana. He was seen accompanied by four other people.
Earlier Veseli told media that he is ready to answer any potential invitation by the Hague war crimes court which will deal exclusively with alleged crimes committed by the KLA. Gazeta Express has reported last month citing sources within the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office that this Hague based court is expected to file indictments against former KLA members who held senior positions including current president Hashim Thaci who during the war was political representative of the KLA, and Kadri Veseli who is known for heading the intelligence of the KLA. The Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office commonly referred by media as the special court, has been established in 2015 by the Kosovo Parliament. Creation of this court was done based on a report drafted by the Swiss Senator Dick Marty which was later approved by the Council of Europe (CoE) who accuses ex-KLA leaders Hashim Thaci, Azem Syla, Kadri Veseli, Xhavit Haliti, Ramush Haradinaj, on organ trafficking and inhuman treatment of people held in detention centres under control of the KLA. /GazetaExpress/
