Ex-KLA commander arrested in Belgium pursuant to arrest warrant of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers

Former Kosovo Liberation Army (KL)A member, Pjeter Shala, has been arrested Tuesday in Belgium pursuant to an arrest warrant and confirmed indictment of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Shala, who was living in Belgiu, is accused of committing war crimes during Kosovo war in 1998-1999.

“On 16 March 2021, the authorities of Belgium arrested Pjetёr Shala, pursuant to an arrest warrant and confirmed indictment related to war crimes issued by a Pre-Trial Judge of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. Pjetёr Shala will be detained in Belgium, pending any transfer to the detention facility of the KSC in The Hague,” the KSC said in a statement.

The KSC announced that more information will be provided in due course, including information about the publication of the confirmed indictment, with redactions where necessary. Pursuant to Rule 88 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, the indictment shall be made public no later than the initial appearance of the Accused. Shala as former KLA commander served at the Dukagjini region. /GazetaExpress/
