EU welcomes Kosovo’s Government decision to drop tariffs, does not mention reciprocity

The decision of the caretaker government of Kosovo to drop tariffs on Serbian goods and start gradual implementation of reciprocity is not seen as an obstacle by the EU Office in Kosovo. The caretaker Government has decided on Tuesday to revoke 100 percent tariffs on all Serbian imports replacing with gradual reciprocal measures. The decision entered into force on 1 April and will be reviewed on 15 June.

The EU Office in Pristina asked by Gazeta Express to comment the caretaker Government’s decision on replacing tariffs with reciprocal measures answered referring a statement posted in Twitter by the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, who welcomed Kosovo’s Government move. “As stated by the High Representative Borrell, the decision on the full lifting of tariffs by Kosovo caretaker government is an important decision an contributes to regional cooperation, which is needed in times of crisis,” the EU Office in Kosovo said on Wednesday.

Borrell said that that this is an important decision. “Happy to see the decision on the full lifting of tariffs by Kosovo caretaker government for goods coming from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This is an important decision. Regional cooperation is key as is maintaining flow of goods, in particular in times of crisis COVID19,” Borrell said on Twitter. /GazetaExpress/
