EU envoy says Kosovo, Serbia could reach agreement soon

The European Union Special Representative the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, told Belgrade-based news agency Beta on Monday that an agreement between Pristina and Belgrade can be reached in a few months if the two sides have the political will.

Lajcak says that the EU member states expect Kosovo and Serbia dialogue to resume without delay and “achieve quick progress on a comprehensive agreement”. He said that officials in Pristina and Belgrade must show political will and courage and have “a mandate from the people which means the trust, support and understanding of their people for the issues being negotiated and the hard decisions to come”. He said that progress depends on the will of the two sides adding that the EU is there to guarantee that an agreement is in line with international law and the values and norms of the EU.

He said that the EU expects the dialogue to continue immediately to reach an agreement and warned that any agreement has to be implemented. The agreement has to include stable solutions for all outstanding issues and contribute to the stability of the Western Balkans, Lajcak said. /GazetaExpress/
