Elderly face long queues for vaccine in Kosovo

Hundreds of senior citizens queued Friday to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at the Sports Hall “1 October” in Pristina, amid high demand for jabs.

Kosovo Health authorities authorized vaccination of seniors over 65 after the country got another batch of AstraZeneca vaccine a few days ago. The opposition parties in Kosovo have reacted following long queues and crowd gathered in Pristina accusing the Ministry of Health for not properly handling the vaccination process and endangering lives of people.  

The Ministry of Health issued a statement saying that long queues have been caused after seniors from other municipalities came to capital Pristina to get the vaccines. Health authorities announced that the immunization process of seniors over 65 has started also in regional healthcare centers.

Kosovo was the last country in Europe to start its vaccination rollout, and so far has received Kosovo so far has received as a donation 24 thousand doses of Astra Zeneca vaccines from COVAX and additional 4,680 doses of BionTech Pfizer from the European Union. The first vaccines were delivered to the healthcare staff and vulnerable groups. /GazetaExpress/
