It seems that the Kurti Government is convinced that by opposing the US, as it is opposing its proposal for license plates this time, it is helping, on the one hand, the US itself and all our international friends, and on the other hand, Kosovo, namely the process of dialogue and achieving recognition.
Is this possible? Let me explain this a little more.
According to the Kosovo Government, it appears that with this disagreement it is helping the US, because Washington officials will now, after the disagreements and unusual opposition that Kurti made, go to Serbia and tell Serbian officials in Belgrade "Look, we can no longer play with Kosovo like we used to, when there were blackmailed rulers there and we could negotiate with them however we wanted." "No, things have changed with the Kurti Government - the Americans in Belgrade will continue - "in contrast, they are now neither blackmailed nor corrupt and like never before have gained the trust of over 50% of voters. "You in Belgrade are the ones who should let go, not Kosovo," the Americans in Belgrade will conclude. Ok. So, with this government political mindset, which has long been ingrained as an opposition concept in the VV Movement, it is intended to simply "increase the bargaining power" in the confrontation with Serbia, and all this with the aim of Kosovo gaining a more favorable position in the dialogue and extracting more benefits, not damaging its territorial integrity and sovereignty, and ultimately securing recognition and membership in the EU, NATO, UN, etc. This is how the Kurti Government seems to think, both the US and Kosovo are helped.
Can this happen?
If so, and the Kurti Government thinks so, it follows that the main fault for the failures in the dialogue with Serbia has always been the hands of those in power before the Kurti Government, namely their harmful compromises and their unvisionary policies and, to make matters worse, their easily blackmailable situation. Consequently, it is my belief that if those in power today are not corrupt or criminals, the international pressure on them regarding the dialogue is futile and easily amortized because the right is on our side, and Kosovo does not have to make concessions.
If so, it also seems to them that the international factor was in order and is the same as it has been in every aspect in relation to Kosovo. But since yesterday they found corrupt and easily blackmailed rulers in Kosovo, who do not love their country but themselves, then they were used to make concessions to the detriment of Kosovo, but to the benefit of the possibility of Serbia's rapprochement with the EU and even with the USA, which is very important for security and peace in the Balkans and for keeping Russia away from the region and especially away from Serbia.
And the other is also falling on them that, Serbia can change with this approach, or in other words it is forced to change because the new but determined approach of official Pristina is strong and courageous but also constitutional which the US also emphasizes that it is such, therefore legal. Consequently, Serbia sees that things have changed in Kosovo, that Kurti is determined and it cannot expect to secure for the Kosovo Serbs the Association as a third power, let alone return Kosovo to where it was before the war.
Can this happen?
No, it is unlikely. Because for this to happen, it seems to me that all that remains is to change the character of the government in Kosovo, that is, for the Government of Kosovo to be uncorrupted and unblackmailed, and things will change for the better for Kosovo. No, it is also unlikely. Because it seems to me that Vučić and other rulers in Belgrade, according to their own standards, should be as corrupt as their colleagues in Pristina once were and accept what the international factor and the Government of Kosovo offer as a solution for Kosovo. Meanwhile, we are seeing that Serbia has increased the readiness of its army. Is this a bluff by Serbia? It may be, but it may not be. In both variants, in most cases, the first victim is the Serbs of Kosovo, not the integrity of Kosovo. Bad.
In short, the Kurti Government lacks the vision to see the complexity of the situation, specifically the dialogue with Serbia. In this segment, it is politically myopic, pragmatically impotent, and even more so, generally incompetent. Meanwhile, the situation it has chosen does not seem comfortable at first glance, but it produces discomfort because it strengthens the "status quo".
