23 years have passed since the murder of young student Burhan Jonuzi-Buli in the Çair neighborhood of Skopje, a crime that shocked public opinion in the first years after the armed conflict and that continues to remain unsolved by the authorities.
Jonuzi-Buli was killed a few minutes after midnight on March 15, 2003, near the “Fidani” kindergarten, in the underpass connecting “Krste Petkov Misirkov” Boulevard with “Nikola Karev” Boulevard. According to reports at the time, he was returning home when he was shot to death.
The deceased was part of a well-known family from Skopje, which was involved in the gold trade.
The incident occurred at a time when the country was still dealing with the consequences of tensions following the 2001 conflict in Macedonia, a time when serious crimes were frequently reported in the capital.
Although various speculations about the motive and possible perpetrators have circulated in public opinion over the years, the justice institutions in North Macedonia have not managed to solve the case to date.
According to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung's "Rule of Law Report 2025", citizens' trust in the country's judicial system remains low, reflecting ongoing concerns about the resolution of serious criminal cases.
