The members of the Shkodra family, wanted for aggravated murder, are still elusive to the justice institutions. While the police say they have taken all measures to arrest them, the IPK continues to keep the police officers suspected of being involved in their case suspended, but with pay.

9 months have passed since the triple murder in the municipality of Gjilan, while the suspects have still not been caught by justice institutions.

Mefail Shkodra, along with his two sons, Edonis and Engjull Shkodra, continue to be inaccessible, while the Kosovo police say they have taken all necessary actions, including issuing an international arrest warrant.

"Referring to your request below, we inform you that regarding the case, the Kosovo Police has taken all necessary actions, including issuing an international arrest warrant, while regarding the issue of police officers, please address the PIK."

And after the murder that occurred in August last year, in a cafe in the city, the Kosovo Police Inspectorate was also activated, who said that the four police officers continue to be suspended.

"Referring to your request, please find the following response from the PIK: Regarding the police officers, the PIK confirms that they are still suspended with pay and that this will continue as long as it is in the interest of the criminal investigation that the PIK is conducting. The case in question is still under investigation and the investigators of the Kosovo Police Inspectorate are carrying out several investigative actions in coordination with the competent prosecution."

The PIK had recommended the suspension of a police sergeant and an investigator from the Regional Investigation Unit in Gjilan, a police sergeant who was the head of investigations at the Novo Brdo Police Station, and a police officer from the Rapid Reaction Unit in Gjilan.

Lawyer Valdet Hoxha says that the lack of legal cooperation with the state of Serbia, which could potentially be a haven for the suspects, poses challenges to their arrest.

"Of course, it is an extraordinary challenge even in cases where the suspects may not be within the country and may have crossed the border, then the next challenge for the institutions of our country is the lack of international cooperation with several countries where the suspects may eventually be sheltered, therefore these are the challenges that the competent mechanisms face, but they must not rest and must take the actions foreseen by the legal framework," Hoxha declared.

The competences for this case have been transferred to the Special Prosecution Office, while the latter has not responded regarding the investigations into this case.

The members of the Shkodra family wanted for aggravated murder were known to the justice institutions for usury cases as they had been arrested in the past and later released. /Tv Dukagjini
