A Sevilla fan who racially abused Vinicius Junior by calling him a "monkey" during a match against Real Madrid at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium in 2023 will face trial at the Provincial Court of Seville on April 29, with a possible prison sentence of one year and nine months, according to a report published on Friday by El Correo de Andalucía.
This former Sevilla season ticket holder, now identified and expelled from the club, made "primate gestures" accompanied by "monkey" calls towards Vinicius Júnior in the match that ended 1-1, with goals from Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, the latter an own goal.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the former Sevilla fan again insulted the Brazilian player, showing clear contempt for his skin color, making racist calls and gestures, causing feelings of frustration, shame and humiliation, and violating his dignity.
These "expressions of contempt" included imitating primitive gestures and the repeated call "monkey", as well as the sounds "uh, uh, uh, uh", an onomatopoeia that imitates the sound of monkeys.
This individual is accused of "crime against moral integrity, punishable under Article 173.1 of the Criminal Code", with Real Madrid and La Liga also acting as private prosecutors.
The Public Prosecution will seek a sentence of "one year and nine months in prison", while the individual could also face "a two-year ban from stadiums".
Sevilla, with the help of the Spanish National Police, identified the aggressor and expelled him from the club in accordance with internal disciplinary regulations./Express newspaper/
