Some men may experience an unusual condition where the penis is not erect but feels hard, tense, or “rubbery.” This is known as Hard Flaccid Syndrome (HFS), a rare syndrome often associated with pelvic floor muscle tension.
Doctors point out that HFS differs from the normal state of the penis at rest, where the organ should be soft and relaxed. Patients often describe it as a feeling of being “stuck” between a soft and hard state. In some cases, numbness, decreased sensitivity, or a feeling of coldness also occur.
Experts explain that this condition should not be confused with priapism, which is a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment.

According to doctors, HFS can significantly affect sexual and emotional life. Some men have difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection, while others report decreased sensitivity and anxiety during intimacy.
Possible causes include pelvic injuries, rough sexual activity, aggressive masturbation, poor posture, and prolonged sitting, especially in people who work long hours at a desk. These factors can cause muscle tension, nerve irritation, or restricted blood flow to the pelvic area.
Stress and anxiety can worsen the condition, as unconscious tension of the pelvic floor muscles creates a cycle that keeps the problem active.

In some mild cases, symptoms may improve on their own, especially if the cause was temporary. However, specialists recommend medical evaluation, especially when symptoms persist or affect quality of life.
Treatment may include pelvic floor physiotherapy, psychological support such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, and consultation with men's health specialists. Doctors emphasize that early intervention increases the chances of improvement and prevents the problem from worsening. /GazetaExpress/
