Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha reacted today regarding the meeting in Greece of Western Balkan leaders called by Mitsotakis, writing that Albania's refusal to participate is self-exclusion from a European initiative.
Berisha says that the Greek Prime Minister did not rightly invite Edi Rama due to his violation of constitutional rights in the Beleri case in particular and that he sent the invitation for Albania, in accordance with the European protocol of these summits, to the President of the Republic.
BERISHA'S REACTION:
Refusing the invitation to the Athens Summit is a boycott, self-exclusion from a European initiative
Dear friends, Greece is the site of the Thessaloniki Summit Declaration, the fundamental legal document of the European Union's official commitment to providing and securing a European perspective for the countries of our region. In this context, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is organizing a high-level meeting with the leaders of the countries of the region, attended by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and other key EU figures.
The Prime Minister of Greece did not rightly invite Edi Rama due to his violation of the constitutional rights, the rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights and the electoral code, and other laws of the country of Albanian citizens in the electoral farce on May 14 in general and the Beleri case in particular. But he sent the invitation for Albania in accordance with the European protocol of these summits to the President of the Republic. However, in an ill-considered act in my assessment, the President of the Republic de facto rejected the invitation, thinking that by his refusal he would impose on Prime Minister Mitsotakis to invite Edi Rama.
With this act, Mr. Begaj chose Edi Rama between the European interests of the Albanians and the personal anti-European mafia interests of Edi Rama. He undertook to boycott the summit and refused the invitation.
The president's reaction is thoughtless and does not represent the European opinion and interests of the country's citizens and political forces, nor the obligations for good neighborliness, but strictly the opinion of Edi Rama and the latter's mafia interests.
The President of the Republic, instead of intervening to resolve the Beleri problem, engineered by Edi Rama from alpha to omega and in violation of the laws of the country, implements Rama's orders.
He knows very well that the May 14 elections were the ugliest electoral farce in the history of political pluralism and Edi Rama's ugly attitude towards Fredi Beleri is personally unconstitutional and in violation of the laws of the country and the values of a free society.
Beleri was arrested in a state security trap, ordered by Rama from Ardi Veliu without any evidence, but only by political order. He remains in prison by political order and in open violation of Albanian law, since he poses no danger, therefore he does not meet any legal conditions for his detention.
The President knows well that Beleri, the opposition candidate and winner of the Himara Municipality elections, is being held in prison in flagrant violation of the country's constitution, the European Convention on Human Rights, and the laws of the country, based on which he is entitled to the mandate given to him by the citizens and which Edi Rama seeks to take away at all costs.
There is no article in the country's laws that prevents Fredi Beleri from taking the oath as elected mayor of Himara Municipality by the vote of the citizens, and there is a precedent for this from several years ago.
Edi Rama's claim that in the Beleri case he is respecting the decisions of the three levels of courts of the Sadush and Sadusheh is simply a fig leaf and a desecration of the judicial system controlled by him. The courts cannot write the laws of the country, but must implement them impartially.
In conclusion, I publicly denounce all these positions that are based on the mafia interests of Edi Rama and his drug clans for the lands and lands of Himara and come in open contradiction with the democratic and European interests of Albanians, I demand the immediate release of political prisoner Fredi Beleri and the representation of Albania at the Athens Summit. #sb
