Today, starting at 11:30, the Central Election Commission will hold its first meeting after setting the date of June 7, 2026 for holding early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo.
The first decisions on the agenda will be to set deadlines for election activities and approve the budget plan.
CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, has indicated that with the activity plan, the CEC regulates the issues on which the entire electoral process is built and that relate to voters, political entities and observers.
"So, here are defined the deadline for political parties to form coalitions and declare non-participation in the elections; the deadline for political entities to be certified and submit the list of candidates for deputies; and the election campaign period. Also, through this plan, the CEC also sets the time for the registration of voters outside Kosovo, voting by mail and in diplomatic missions, as well as the registration of voters with special needs. Part of this plan is also setting deadlines for the accreditation of observers and media", said Elezi.
According to him, since these are early elections, "their organization is done within short deadlines and that the CEC will adjust these deadlines as needed and in accordance with the circumstances."
Elezi also indicated that at this meeting the CEC is expected to approve the budget planning necessary for organizing the elections.
"The year 2026 is not an election year and this means that in the annual budget of the CEC allocated by the budget law, there are no funds planned for early elections. In such circumstances, as has been done in the past, the CEC addresses the Government of Kosovo with a request for the funds that are necessary to cover the expenses," he said.
