Chairman of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milan Knezevic, has again announced the launch of an initiative to "cancel" the recognition of Kosovo's independence in Montenegro, starting from the local level, and then moving to the central level.

The DNP party is a pro-Serbian and pro-Russian party.

According to the head of the DNP, which until recently was a partner within the ruling coalition in Montenegro, the process will begin on May 12, when the Municipal Assembly of Zeta, which gained the status of a municipality in 2022, is expected to adopt the decision to "de-recognize" Kosovo.

The leadership in Zeta has attempted several times to pass resolutions and declarations to "de-recognize" Kosovo, although without legal force over Montenegro's official foreign policy.

Knežević expressed his expectation that the decision of the Municipality of Zeta will be followed by other Montenegrin municipalities where the Serb population constitutes the majority, without leaving aside Podgorica.

He also announced that he will send an official statement to the Parliament of Montenegro, through which he will request that the Montenegrin executive withdraw its recognition of Kosovo.

Otherwise, in Montenegro, the debate still continues between forces that support the country's Euro-Atlantic course and those who seek closer ties with Serbia and Russia.
