Kosovo's Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, is looking for a place in Kosovo's history.

Written by: Artan Behrami

He wants to go down in history not for what he did, but for what he intended to do!

Not for the works he has completed, but for the ideas he has started. Kurti wants to be celebrated as a hero not for the dreams he has brought to life, but for the 'nightmares' he has stifled!

He is more concerned with how history will evaluate him than with how to take actions that will secure his place in history.

All the decisions he makes today, Albin Kurti does not adapt to the 'Zeitgeist' of those of you who are reading this OpEd, but to those who will read it in 50 years.

Albin Kurti sees himself as a statue.

In one hand he holds the pen for signing, in the other hand the barometer of the pulse and judgment of Kosovars who have not yet been born!

And when you are covered in bronze, there is no room for dissent, for negotiation, for dialogue, for flexibility. His truth is cemented, frozen, unchanging!

Kurti will never put his signature on any agreement with Serbia.

He will try to cover up his rigidity and reluctance to dialogue with patriotic and nationalistic rhetoric. He will try to present fear as patriotism!

Common sense would say that since Kurti has already broken all the principles, why shouldn't he also accept an agreement with Serbia? But, in Kurti's worldview, logic is always turned upside down!

There is only one precondition for reaching an agreement with Serbia.

Courage!

But Kurti is a coward, he is a populist, he is not a statesman. Out of fear and lack of courage, he has demonized dialogue to the level of a babaroka. And now, he thinks of entering history through rhetoric, turning into the antipode of the Gogol he himself created!

It is no one's fault that Thaçi and Rugova lacked the courage, vision, and patience to establish relations with Kosovo's strategic allies - the United States of America.

But, Kosovo's and world history only rewards personalities with statues for their works!

Adem Jashari has gone down in history for sacrificing his family for freedom. Adem Demaçi has gone down in history for his sacrifice against the Yugoslav communist regime and Serbia's systematic repression.

Ibrahim Rugova for the peaceful resistance and pro-Western orientation of the Albanian Movement in Kosovo.

Hashim Thaçi for his role as Political Director in the Kosovo Liberation Army, for the extraordinary representation of Kosovo at the International Rambouillet Conference, which brought about NATO's humanitarian intervention and the liberation of Kosovo, for the declaration of independence and the entire state-building process.

But, let's face it, time will prove my analysis wrong. Where should we place the statue of Albin Kurti?

His statue could not be placed on Adem Jashari Square, because he was against the use of weapons against the Milosevic regime. Because, by withdrawing from the KLA, Kurti never followed the path of the Jasharis and the KLA.

Not even in Mother Teresa Square, because it was never a unifier, but rather the epicenter of all the divisions in the last two decades.

Not even in Skanderbeg Square, because the Vetëvendosje Movement still holds the insults, the despisers and the haters of the most brilliant national figure!

Not even in Ibrahim Rugova Square, which he hated for life, but also for death!

Not even in Madeleine Albright Square, which he had threatened.

Not even in the square Bill Clinton, whom he had opposed in 1999, speaking out against the Rambouillet Conference.

Not even on the George Bush street, for whom he said he would never accept Kosovo's independence.

Not even in the way of René Descartes, who was always in search of absolute truth, while Kurti creates parallel truths and then asks others to adapt to them!

His statue would fit best in a square that was never built. In David Copperfield's.

Kurti is an illusionist, an optical illusionist!

Therefore, he will never have a statue of a hero, statesman, or humanist, because he is neither Adem Jashari, nor Ibrahim Rugova, nor Hashim Thaçi, nor Adem Demaçi, nor Zelensky.

Albin Kurti is just one "I love you" of all of these.

Unfortunately, history has been cruel to "I Love You" personalities - it has left no names for them, no statues, and no place in history!
