From January 1, 2027, the system for obtaining a driver's license in Switzerland will change. The traffic awareness course (VKU) will have to be completed before the theoretical exam, while its content will be expanded with new topics such as modern driving assistance systems and road safety.
According to the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the theoretical exam will also include questions from the VKU, addressing issues such as traffic hazards, distraction and energy efficiency. Authorities emphasize that the exam is not expected to become more difficult, as the material will be taught in advance.
The reform aims to modernize driver training, as the VKU has not been updated for almost 30 years. Driving instructors welcome the change, but some also call for further increases in requirements to improve road safety, albinfo.ch reports.
