Real Madrid has won an important victory in court regarding the issue of noise pollution from concerts held at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The Provincial Court of Madrid has ruled that the Madrid club and its directors have not committed any criminal offense in relation to the noise caused during musical events organized at the stadium.
The decision overturns the criminal proceedings that were previously opened against the club's general director, José Ángel Sánchez, and the company "Real Madrid Estadio SL", following complaints from residents near the stadium about high noise levels during concerts by famous artists such as Taylor Swift, Karol G and Luis Miguel.
According to the court's decision, the responsibility for respecting the permitted noise limits falls on the promotional companies that organize the concerts and not on Real Madrid as the owner of the stadium, writes "El Pais", reports "Gazeta Express".
The judges emphasized that administrative violations of environmental regulations do not automatically constitute a criminal offense.
The Madrid club's official statement states that the decision "confirms the total lack of legal basis for the lawsuit" filed by the Chamartín residents' association.
Real Madrid added that it has always acted in accordance with the law and has collaborated with the authorities to respect acoustic norms.
However, even though the club has been declared criminally innocent, the case is not considered completely closed.
The residents' association has announced an appeal against the decision, while several concert organizing companies have announced that they will not return to the Bernabéu until the stadium improves its acoustic insulation or local legislation changes.
The problems began after the giant renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, a project that cost the club over 1.5 billion euros and aimed to turn the arena into a multifunctional center for sports and music events throughout the year.
However, the 2024 concerts brought numerous complaints from residents about excessive noise, road congestion, and quality of life issues.
Due to legal pressure and ongoing complaints, Real Madrid had temporarily suspended the organization of concerts at the stadium since September 2024, while the club is still working on improving the acoustic insulation system. /Express newspaper
