An unusual catch has surprised fishermen near Cape Cod after they pulled a lobster from the sea with an extremely rare coloration—its body was divided into two different colors.

A one in 50 million phenomenon

The lobster had a perfect split down the middle: one side was the typical brown color, while the other was bright orange. This phenomenon only occurs about one in 50 million times.

Initially, it was destined for a processing company, but was then donated for study to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium, where it will be exhibited to the public.

How does this phenomenon happen?

According to biologists, this unusual split occurs when two fertilized eggs fuse in the early stages, creating an organism with two different genetic structures.

This gives the lobster the ability to store different pigments on each side of its body.

Rare colors in nature

Most lobsters are dark in color to camouflage themselves on the sea floor, but genetic mutations can create rare variants:

Blue lobsters: about 1 in 2 million

Orange lobster: about 1 in 30 million

Albino lobsters: about 1 in 100 million

These changes are related to the production of different pigments in the body.

An attraction for the public

The lobster will be put on display once the aquarium reopens, offering visitors the opportunity to see one of nature's rarest phenomena up close.

Experts hope that this case will raise awareness of the complexity of genetics and the extraordinary diversity that exists in the natural world. /GazetaExpress/
