Kosovo Police has prevented a case of animal smuggling just one day before the Eid al-Adha holiday. The action was carried out by the Regional Directorate of Border Police - East in the village of Dumnicë, as part of its efforts to protect the state border and combat illegal cross-border activities.
According to the police report, on May 26, 2026, police units stopped two vehicles with local license plates, where during the search 27 sheep and 4 lambs without registration plates were found. It is suspected that the animals were smuggled from the territory of Serbia to the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
A Kosovar male suspect was arrested in connection with the case, who was released after being interviewed in accordance with the regular procedure. With the authorization of the competent prosecutor, a case was initiated for the offense of "smuggling of goods".
The seized vehicles and animals have been sent to the customs terminal for further procedures.
