Gani Geci, through a post on Facebook, wrote about Rifat Jashari, saying that the latter was the pillar of the Jashari family, and that he is a hardworking, wise and brave man.
Geci also recalled the first siege of the Jashari family on December 30, 1991, where Rifat was also present at the house. Geci wrote that Rifat there, "according to news from Serbia," had wounded two Serbian policemen.
"With my proposal to the Security Committee in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, the date 30.12 has remained Veteran's Day. PDK and AAK have proposed two other dates: one in 1995 and one with the appearance of the KLA on the scene, in 1997. My reasoning was: where do you want to leave the four, or rather seven years of war of the Jashari Family?" Geci wrote.
Otherwise, in recent days, the Jashari family has been rumored by the ruling Vetëvendosje party, regarding the presidential issue, as a possibility that someone from this family could be elected as the new president of the country. However, yesterday, members of this family, more specifically, Murat Jashari and Bekim Jashari, have denied such a thing.

On December 30, 1991, when Shaban Jashari's tower was first surrounded – a tower that Rifat Jashari had built while working in Germany – he was at home, on vacation in honor of the New Year.
When Rifat came out onto the street, two police officers “stunned” him. Rifat opened fire with a burst of fire and, according to Serbian news, wounded two Serbian police officers.
With my proposal to the Security Committee in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, December 30.12th has been declared Veteran's Day.
