The Special Court has published an announcement on the social network X, emphasizing that judges in The Hague ensure that the rights of the accused are respected in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the European Convention on Human Rights.
The Organization of KLA War Veterans (OVL-KLA) reacted to this announcement, criticizing the court's statement, saying that the reality of the judicial process does not match the claims for full respect for rights.
According to this organization, the citizens of Kosovo have seen in recent years how the rights of the accused have been treated in this process. According to them, keeping former KLA members on trial in The Hague in detention for such a long time is difficult to justify, especially when the court itself says that the trial is in its final stages.
"Do not try to deceive our people with such statements, as if during this process the rights of the accused and the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo have been fully respected. The people of Kosovo have understood very clearly during these years how many times fundamental human rights have been violated and how much the Constitution of our country has been truly respected," the KLA's OVL response states.
Veterans also ask how the long-term detention of KLA leaders can be justified, "when the court itself says that the trial is in its final stages?"
"This is a question that requires a clear answer, not formal declarations of respect for rights. We want nothing more than true justice and equal standards, as applied in any other democratic judicial system," the response states.
