OpenAI is working on a social network similar to X, The Verge reported on Tuesday, citing multiple sources close to the matter.
It is an internal prototype focused on the ChatGPT image generator that has a social timeline, the report said.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has privately sought feedback from outsiders on the project, which is still in its early stages. It is still unclear whether the company will launch the social network as a standalone app or integrate it directly into ChatGPT.
The move would further escalate tensions between Altman and billionaire Elon Musk, who owns X and is also the co-founder of OpenAI. He left the AI startup in 2018.
Tensions between the two tech leaders have escalated in recent months. In February, a consortium of investors led by Elon Musk made a $97.4 billion offer to buy OpenAI, an offer that was immediately rejected by Altman.
A social network from OpenAI would also come into direct competition with industry giant Facebook. /PCWorld Albanian
