Iran has proposed suspending uranium enrichment for a period of up to five years, an offer that has been rejected by the United States, which has sought a much longer period of up to 20 years. The news was reported by The New York Times, citing senior officials from both sides.

According to the report, during talks held in Pakistan, US and Iranian delegations exchanged proposals for suspending Tehran's nuclear activity, but are still far from a concrete agreement.

However, discussions have suggested that there is still a possibility of reaching a peace agreement, while the development of a second round of face-to-face negotiations is also being considered.

Meanwhile, the BBC has announced that it has contacted the White House for an official comment regarding the latest developments, but without an immediate response.

Iran's nuclear program remains one of the most sensitive issues in this diplomatic showdown. US President Donald Trump has reiterated that the US will ensure that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons, considering this a non-negotiable line in Washington's position.
