Albanian Parliament Member Jorida Tabaku has expressed her support for the protest of Albanian students in North Macedonia, describing the demand for the use of the Albanian language as a fundamental and non-negotiable right, writes the newspaper KOHA.

In a public reaction, Tabaku emphasized that there are historical moments when a people does not seek privileges or favors, but only the right to be themselves. According to her, Albanians in North Macedonia enjoy rights that cannot be undone, relativized, or denied.

She also referred to an earlier meeting with one of the student representatives, Mevlan Ademi, emphasizing that she saw in him dignity and dedication to a fundamental cause. According to Tabaku, this cause is related to the right to use one's native language without fear and without prejudice.

Full reaction of MP Jorida Tabaku:

There are moments in history when a people does not ask for privileges. It does not ask for favors. It only asks for the right to be itself.

The Albanians of North Macedonia have rights that cannot be undone, cannot be relativized, and cannot be taken away by anyone. When I met Mevlani a few weeks ago in Tirana, I saw in him not the anger of a revolted man, but the calm and dignity of a patriot fighting for something fundamental: the right to one's mother tongue. For the right for a person to speak his mother tongue without fear, without prejudice, and without feeling like a stranger in his own country.

Because language is not just communication. It is memory. It is identity. It is the history that a people leaves to generations.

Albanians in North Macedonia cannot be treated as citizens without identity and without roots. The Europe we believe in is not built by remaining silent in the face of small injustices that over time become major wounds. European integration cannot be a facade that hides a slide towards nationalism or the violation of fundamental rights.

Therefore, the protection of the mother tongue is not just a political issue. It is a matter of human dignity. And the protest for this right is not only legitimate, but right. A right that I support with full conviction.
