The applications from the candidates who competed in the announcement for the election of the new Public Prosecutor have not yet been submitted to the Council of Public Prosecutors. The Chairman of the Council, Bashkim Besimi, stated that he will act immediately as soon as the applications officially arrive within the deadline provided by law.

"Up to this moment, the candidates' applications have not yet arrived. When they arrive, within the legal deadline of 15 days, we will provide an answer to the candidates," Besimi declared.

He added that the names of the candidates are already known to the public, but that he will not formally publish anything until the official documents arrive.

"In principle, we know all the candidates, but we will review the applications and decide at the session," he added, explaining that after reviewing the documentation, the Council will notify the Government within the legal deadline.

Although the names of the candidates have not been officially confirmed, as confirmed by some of the applicants themselves, they are Acting State Public Prosecutor Anita Topolova-Isajlovska, Prosecutor Lenche Ristovska, Judge from the Criminal Court, Nenad Savevski, Former President of the Criminal Court, Vladimir Panchevski, and Prosecutor from the Skopje Prosecutor's Office, Lidija Raičević.

After the Government session two days ago, the government spokesperson, Marija Miteva, announced that a conclusion has been reached regarding the five candidacies for State Public Prosecutor, the process moves to the next legal phase – the submission of the complete documentation to the Council of Public Prosecutors. According to legal provisions, the Council has a deadline of 15 days to submit its opinion on each of the candidates to the Government.

After receiving the opinion from the Council, the Government must prepare a proposal and submit it to the Assembly, where the new State Public Prosecutor is elected with 61 votes.

In this procedure, the order set out in the Law on the Public Prosecutor's Office applies. If the Council does not submit a positive opinion on any candidate, the Government cannot propose the election, and the Assembly must announce a new announcement.

The procedure comes after the resignation of the previous State Prosecutor, Ljupco Kocevski, who submitted it in December last year, after which the function of Acting State Public Prosecutor was performed by Anita Topolova-Isaylovska, but for a maximum of 6 months, therefore the selection of a new holder of the position is necessary within the specified deadline.

Besimi postponed today's Council session indefinitely due to the lack of a quorum for work.

Several items were scheduled for today's session, including the minutes of the Commission on the procedure for ensuring and guaranteeing the independence of prosecutors, submitted by prosecutor Lençe Ristovska.

The Council also had to decide on two disciplinary issues, as well as make decisions on announcing competitions for the selection of prosecutors in the Basic Public Prosecutor's Offices in Resen, Kriva Palanka and Koçan.
