Liverpool announced that they will retire the number 20 shirt in honor of Diogo Jota, who died on Thursday in a traffic accident.

Jude Bellingham (Birmingham City – no. 22)
Birmingham retired Bellingham when he moved to Borussia Dortmund at the age of 17. Today he is one of Real Madrid's leading stars.
Diego Maradona (Naples – no. 10)
After a legendary career at Napoli, the Italian club retired his No. 10 shirt in 2000. Napoli's stadium now bears his name.
Bobby Moore (West Ham – No. 6)
In 2008, on the 50th anniversary of his debut, West Ham retired the shirt of one of England's best defenders.
Marc-Vivien Foé (Manchester City – no. 23)
After his death on the pitch during a match against Cameroon in 2003, Manchester City retired his number 23 shirt.
Emiliano Sala (Nantes – no. 9)
Following his tragic death in a plane crash in 2019, Nantes retired the No. 9 shirt in honor of the Argentine striker.
George Baldock (Panathinaikos – no. 32)
After his tragic death in Greece in 2023, Panathinaikos decided to retire his jersey.
Peter Whittingham (Cardiff City – No. 7)
The Cardiff club honoured his memory by retiring the No. 7 shirt, after Whittingham died at the age of 35 following a head injury.
Ray Jones (QPR – no. 31)
QPR retired the 18-year-old striker's shirt after a fatal car accident in 2007.
