The U.S. Embassy in Pristina is against the idea on exchange of territories, an initiative which was mentioned also by Kosovo leaders. Gazeta Express has reported last Friday that Kosovo politicians were involved in a new political adventure asking for partition of Kosovo, shortly after one of their initiative on revocation of war crimes court failed. But the U.S. Embassy made it clear that the exchange of territories will not be supported, and this would create problems rather than solving them. “We do not support exchange of territories or setting precedents which would create problems rather than solving them, but all sides should be creative to find a solution,” it is stated in an answer the US Embassy sent to Gazeta Express. However the U.S. Embassy emphasised that they strongly support the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia facilitated by the EU, and encourages both parties to accelerate their efforts in full normalisation of relations. “We are ready to hear, help, and be creative in supporting efforts on reaching of a comprehensive agreement which is the only way to pave the way towards a Western future of both Kosovo and Serbia,” the U.S. Embassy told Gazeta Express in a written statement.
Gazeta Express has learned that the idea on exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia, is being supported also by Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and Greece Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias. Kosovo President’s Office told Gazeta Express that in this phase this is only a speculation. But they neither confirmed nor denied launching of informal talks with Serbian side related to this idea. /GazetaExpress/
