Kosovo is planning to submit a request for membership in the Council of Europe (CoE) within 2018.
In December 2017 the Government has discussed Kosovo’s bid into this organisation, however no concrete steps have been taken to submit the bid. Deputy Prime Minister, Enver Hoxhaj, says that Council of Europe (CoE) is the most important organisation after the European Union. He said that Kosovo should apply for CoE membership as soon as possible. “The CoE application should happen as soon as possible because of the perfect timing within this organisation. Over the next two years the CoE will be headed by countries which have recognised Kosovo and if we apply now our bid can be included in the agenda and we can start fulfilling conditions to become full-fledged member of the Council of Europe,” Hoxhaj told online media Lajmi.net. He said that if Kosovo submits its bid in 2018 the membership process will take from one to three years.
