Kosovo Parliament Speaker, Kadri Veseli, has reacted to the EU position that the statute of Trepca mining complex should be resolved during the dialogue with Serbia.
Veseli said in a Facebook post that Trepca is not and will never be an open issue and should not be addressed during Kosovo-Serbia dialogue in Brussels. “With this rhetoric, the EU is ruining every perspective of dialogue and good neighbourly relations. Trepca is a natural right of the state of Kosovo. From here to eternity,” Veseli wrote.
EU Commission spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic, told Belgrade media on Tuesday that the status of the Trepca mining complex should be resolved through dialogue with Serbia. The Parliament of Kosovo has approved last week the statute of Trepca as part of a plan to revive this once industrial giant of Kosovo. The statute stipulates that Kosovo's government will keep control of 80 percent of the share capital of Trepca, while 20 percent will be owned by the company employees. Serbia is protesting this move claiming ownership of Trepca mine.
