Former editor in chief of one of the leading newspapers in Kosovo Zeri who just recently joined the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Arbana Xharra, was brutally beaten on a parking place in Pristina on the night between Friday and Saturday. The police says that she is in stable condition. Kosovo leaders, journalists and civil society representatives condemned the attack.
The incident has happened on the night between Friday and Saturday on a parking place in front of Xharra’s apartment and only two days after she joined the PDK. The Kosovo Police confirmed the attack against Xharra stating that unknown people have physically assulted Xharra, announcing that she is in stable condition. They announced that the investigations related to this case are ongoing. Xharra has been rushed to Pristina hospital for further treatment.
Arbana was also earlier target of attacks. Few months ago she found threatening messages painted in red color in front of her apartment. Former journalist turned politician, Arbana Xhara, has been threatened many times for her reporting and personal stance expressed in social media attacking negative phenomenon in Kosovo society, such as fighting religious extremism and terrorism.
Arbana Xharra, is laureate of the annual prestigious “International Women of Courage Award” given by U.S. State Secretary, and is one of the critic voices in Kosovo society.
Kosovo leaders including President Thaci, Foreign Minister Hoxhaj, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, journalists, and representatives of civil society, have strongly condemned this incident and called on authorities to find the perpetrators of this attack and to bring them to justice. /GazetaExpress/
