EU seeks to bypass Kosovo Government wants President Thaci in dialogue with Serbia GazetaExpress

The European Union sent a letter to Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj reminding him that President Hashim Thaci will continue leading the high level dialogue with Serbia in Brussels. The letter was written after Kosovo Parliament approved a new negotiation team in dialogue with Belgrade.

The letter written by the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malstrom and Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, reminds Haradinaj that the High Level  Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia facilitated by Mogherini is headed by President Hashim Thaci. The EU representatives welcomed the resolution adopted by Kosovo Parliament last week saying that this is an important development which will contribute “to strengthening the weight of Kosovo authorities” and “should make it easier to rapidly and constructively proceed, under current set-up of the High Level Dialogue.”

“We welcome it and consider it as an input to the Kosovo positions that will be expressed by its President in the current Dialogue, which is for the EU the only realistic framework for addressing the normalization of relations between Pristina and Belgrade,” it is written in the letter.

They accuse Haradinaj that with his unilateral actions is are to the detriment of the progress reached during the dialogue. “We strongly disagree with our assessment that the Dialogue is stalling. Quite the contrary the Dialogue being conducted by the two Presidents has been making steady progress. We have shared this assessment with the EU Leaders at the December European Council and received an encouraging message of support,” the EU leaders wrote. According to Mogherini, Malstrom and Hahn, consider that unilateral action or untimely statements, from any sides, can only be detrimental and slow down the progress that can be made within the framework of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. /Gazeta Express/
