The ruling majority did not support the need for changes to the Law on Government – that ministers only have citizenship of the Republic of Macedonia. Only 20 opposition MPs voted for the changes to the law proposed by SDSM.

SDSM proposed amendments to the Law on Government to make it compatible with VMRO-DPMNE's proposal that MPs only have RMV citizenship. The legal solution was explained by SDSM parliamentary group coordinator Oliver Spasovski.
He said that the SDSM parliamentary group proposed that the law be approved through an abbreviated procedure.

"The legal solution must be in line with the amendments to the Law on Deputies proposed by VMRO-DPMNE, namely to adopt a law requiring that members of the Government have only one citizenship.

There are ministers in the Government who have one or more citizenships, and since such a condition is set in the Law on Deputies, then we should have such a legal solution that will limit only citizens of Macedonia to be members of the government. This is not contrary to the idea proposed by VMRO-DPMNE in the Law on Deputies, and with this we will also meet the expectations of the citizens. Those who are committed to serving the citizens should only have citizenship of the RMV.

"There are members of the Government with Bulgarian, Czech citizenship, I am talking about the Minister of Energy, Sanja Bozhinovska. I hope that the majority will support the law and that the procedure will continue both for this and for the Law on Deputies, which has now slowed down," said Spasovski.
