After about two weeks of interruption due to tensions in the Middle East and Iranian bombings that have hit several Gulf countries, football in Qatar is ready to resume.

The national championship, the Qatar Stars League, will return this Thursday with strict security measures to guarantee the normal development of matches, writes "Tuttomercatoweb", reports "Gazeta Express".

While in Europe fans' attention is focused on Champions League matches, in Doha priorities have been different in recent weeks.

The conflict in the region and rocket attacks have also had an impact on local football.

Even Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has been stranded in the Qatari capital due to the situation and cannot travel to watch his club's match against Chelsea.

After the forced break, the championship will resume with week 18, which was originally scheduled for March 5, but was postponed for safety reasons.

The new schedule includes three matches: Al-Sailiya – Al-Duhail, Al-Wakrah – Al-Shamal and Qatar SC – Al-Gharafa.

The resumption of the race has been made possible thanks to a special security protocol drawn up in collaboration with the country's authorities.

The league's general director, Hani Ballan, stressed that the situation was unusual for the country.

"These are difficult and unprecedented times for our country, but we are grateful to live in one of the safest countries in the world, with solid systems to protect us."

He added that the safety of players, coaches, medical staff and all personnel remains an absolute priority.

Despite the tensions in the region and the impact they have had on air traffic in the Persian Gulf, the resumption of the championship is seen as an important step towards the gradual return of normality to Qatari sport. /Express newspaper
