Iranian authorities have carried out more than 4,000 arrests related to the conflict with the United States and Israel, according to a report published by the US-based human rights non-governmental organization HRANA.
According to the report, at least 4,023 arrests were recorded between February 28 and May 9, coinciding with the escalation of US-Israeli attacks on Iran. The detainees are accused of acts such as espionage, threats to national security and distribution of conflict-related materials to foreign media.
HRANA states that Iranian authorities "are exploiting the war to justify arrests, restrictions on freedom of expression, and violence against civilians."
Meanwhile, Iranian police chief Ahmad Reza Radan has stated that more than 6,500 people labeled as "traitors and spies" have been arrested since the anti-government protests in January, linking these measures to activities considered hostile to the state.
Reports also worsen regarding the death penalty. Human rights organizations say that since the start of the conflict, 26 men designated as "political prisoners" have been executed, including people linked to the 2022 and 2024 protests, as well as banned opposition groups.
According to official Iranian media, six people were hanged for spying for Israel during the same period.
HRANA also reports thousands of casualties from American-Israeli attacks, including over 1,700 civilians, while the situation in the country remains tense amid military escalation and strict security measures.
