An airline pilot left passengers breathless during a night flight after asking them to look out the windows and what they saw was stunning.

The incredible moment was captured by Aurelie, a traveler and travel influencer, who then posted it on TikTok.

Her followers were equally mesmerized by the aurora borealis. One TikTok user wrote: "It really blew my mind. It's my dream to see it one day."

Another admitted: “I would start crying. I’ve always wanted to see them up close.” And a third said: “This is why I chose my seat on the flight to Iceland!”

The northern lights, scientifically known as the aurora borealis, are a natural display of light in the sky, caused by the collision of the solar wind and magnetically charged particles with the atmosphere. They are most commonly seen in Scandinavia, particularly Norway, but occasionally in the United Kingdom during strong solar flares.

This year is expected to be the best in a decade to see the phenomenon, with February being the ideal time. 2026 also marks a rare once-in-a-decade event: solar maximum, when the Sun's magnetic activity intensifies and is expected to peak by March 2026, before easing back again by the mid-2030s.

The good thing is that you don't have to go to the Arctic to enjoy the view. There are many places in Europe, such as Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland, where you can see the northern lights due to their proximity to the Arctic Circle. /GazetaExpress/
