The Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, in a statement to the media, spoke about the local by-elections that will be held on November 9 in 5 municipalities.
Celibashi stated that an independent candidate must receive supporting signatures from no less than 1% of the voters of the municipality where he will run. He further added that so far the CEC has not received any requests from Initiative Committees or independent candidates to register for the elections in the municipalities of Tepelena, Mat, Berat, Vlora and Cerrik.
"The independent candidate must receive supporting signatures from no less than 1% of the voters of the respective municipality. So far, we have not received any requests from the Central Election Commission from Initiative Committees or independent candidates represented by these Initiative Committees to register as such for the elections for the other 5 municipalities," said Celibashi.
Meanwhile, regarding the Municipality of Tirana, the chief commissioner said that the collection of signatures cannot begin due to the Constitutional Court's decision to suspend the president's decree on the date of the elections in the capital.
