“L'epos degli albanesi” is the newest book by academic Kujtim M. Shala in Italian. This monographic book deals with the Albanian epic, “Lahuta e Malcís” and has seven chapters: I. L'epos albanese; II. Il sacrificio Vranina; III. L'insegnamento didattica di letteratura e storia; IV. Marash Uci; V. I Leka; VI. Tringa; VII. La corona dell' opera. The book also has a Bibliography, as well as a note about the author. The structure of “L'epso degli albanesi” follows the structure of Gjergj Fishta's epic “Lahuta e Malcís”, as a work composed of separate thematic cycles, which, interconnected, give the epic of the Albanians; the method of creating the epic has also determined the systematics of research and interpretation. According to the literary aesthetic assessment of the scholar Shala, “Lahuta e Malcís” is Fishta's literary masterpiece and a masterpiece of Albanian literature. Such works, in addition to their aesthetic value, are important literary and cultural works, and therefore representative works.
Furthermore, the author studies the way Fishta's work was created, its literary genre, literary heroes, basic narrative events, the cultural format and authentic morality of the work's world, as well as its basic literary and identity lessons. The other chapters of this monograph analyze and interpret the six epic cycles that make up Fishta's epic: the songs about Vranina; the songs about the League of Prizren; the songs about Marash Uci; about the battle of Sutjeska; about Tringa, as well as the songs of the battles for the independence of Albania. The creation of the work over almost four decades has determined the structure and special nature of the work, a fact that the epic scholar must take into account, in order to grasp the goals, as well as the special nature of Fishta's epic, it narrates a special event, each one has its own heroes and the morality it gives with the example of the heroes, therefore each one is studied as an epic whole, while all the chapters of "L'epos degli albanesi" together open Fishta's great work, this great work of Albanianism, its great lesson, this authentic lesson, which is given with examples of Albanian life and honor; a typical feature that, in addition to Albanians, should be recognized by others.
Works like “Lahuta e Malcís” by Gjergj Fishta are read for aesthetics and thematics, they are read to identify, therefore they are works of identity. Such works teach great lessons of ideality and identity. This is what this study essentially underlines. “L'epso degli albanesi” in Italian is an invitation for readers in this language to get to know a great work of Albanian literature and identity. The book, together with the quoted parts from “Lahuta e Malcís”, has been masterfully translated by Kopi Kyçyku. This is the 62nd book by this author.
