Kosovo plans on Thursday (May 12) to submit an application to join the Council of Europe (CoE). Sources within the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to Radio Free Europe that everything is set and the application will be submitted soon, likely on Thursday.
The application comes after Wednesday evening Kosovo Foreign Minister Donika Gervalla attended the informal dinner with other Western Balkan leaders hosted by the EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell. Gervalla has not officially confirmed on whether Kosovo will submit the bid to join the CoE, but various sources have already announced of Kosovo's intention to submit the application today. This was also mentioned by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday after the dinner of WB leaders. He told the media after the dinner that with the latest actions Kosovo is violating the agreements it has reached in Brussels and Washington. He announced a "serious response" to Kosovo's actions and implied that Serbia will reactivate its campaign to convince countries of the world to derecognize Kosovo.
Kosovo got public support from several countries on its efforts to apply for CoE membership. Kosovo leaders have announced their plans and stated that they have the support of two thirds of CoE members. Kosovo started efforts to apply for membership into this European organization after Russia was excluded from this body following Russia's aggression on Ukraine. /GazetaExpress/
