The Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms (KMDLNj) has reacted harshly to Radio Television of Kosovo for the dismissal of two journalists, Edina Avdiu and Hana Marteti.
Moreover, in the KMDLNJ's reaction, acting editor-in-chief Blerim Haxhijaj is accused of having "conspired to implement political orders in a medium that, according to the founding act, should be a public medium and not an outlet of the ruling party."
The full reaction of the KMDLNJ:
RTK – BRUTALLY VIOLATES HUMAN RIGHTS!
RTK journalists Edina Avdiu and Hana Marteti were fired by Blerim Haxhijaj, who as acting editor-in-chief has conspired to implement political orders in a medium that, according to the founding act, should be a public medium and not an outlet of the ruling party. This same acting editor, a mercenary who executes government decisions by dismissing, suspending, demoting and mistreating journalists through psychological pressure, has previously dismissed or suspended RTK journalists. And he has lost all cases. Firing an employee simply because after 3 years of work experience, without any remarks on the quality of his work, his contract is not renewed, while in the meantime you terrorize him with pressure and threats, clearly shows that it is a political decision and execution, differentiation like in the times of the former Yugoslavia. The KMDLNJ assesses that this dismissal violates the Labor Law and consequently constitutes a serious violation of human rights. Furthermore, this dismissal jeopardizes the status of whistleblowers.
KMDLNj - calls on all media to show solidarity with journalists Edina Avdiu and Hana Marleti, otherwise the spiral of revenge will only increase.
KMDLNJ calls on the Parliamentary Media Committee to react and take decisions in accordance with its mandate.
KMDLNj calls on the Independent Trade Union of RTK to support journalists who are leaving their jobs for political and non-professional reasons, thus protecting its members.
By dismissing quality RTK journalists and submitting to the government, the conformists of RTK's managerial staff are strategically and irreversibly damaging this public medium.
If this continues, the main news edition will begin and end with: "This is Dejona, this is Dejona...". Like Hajrije Spikerica used to do.
The KMDLNJ demands an investigation into the violent RTK director, Blerim Haxhijaj, for serious professional violations.
KMDLNj strongly supports female journalists who have been displaced by violations of basic human rights, such as the right to work and the degrading treatment they receive from their employer, namely from Acting Director Blerim Haxhijaj.
