Apple Inc. has quietly unveiled the new iPhone 17e, without the traditional grand event at Apple Park, California. The device was announced simply through an official post, but it has immediately sparked great interest.

The new model costs £599 in the UK – around €700 – and for the same price offers double the base storage, from 128GB to 256GB. This makes the 17e significantly more attractive compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 16e.

What does the new one bring?

According to the company, the iPhone 17e is equipped with the latest generation A19 chip, which promises faster performance and higher energy efficiency. The main camera is a 48MP Fusion, described as “two cameras in one”, as it also enables 2x optical zoom with high quality. Users can shoot photos up to 48MP or 24MP for a balance between quality and file size.

One of the most welcome innovations is the return of MagSafe support, which was missing from the 16e. This means wireless charging up to 15W and compatibility with a range of accessories like magnetic chargers, wallets, and camera accessories.

Design and variants

The iPhone 17e comes in three colors: black, white, and a new "soft pink" shade that is expected to be especially popular with younger users. It is offered in two memory variants, with 256GB as the base capacity for a price of around 700 euros.

Pre-orders start on Wednesday, while the device will go on sale from March 11.

Another new iPad

Alongside the phone, Apple also introduced a new iPad Air with the M4 chip. The 11-inch version costs £599 (around €700), while the 13-inch model costs £799 (around €930). These devices also open for pre-order on March 4 and go on sale on March 11.

With double the storage, a new processor and the return of MagSafe, the iPhone 17e looks like one of Apple's most competitive offerings in the "more affordable" segment - a signal that the company is listening more to user requests. /GazetaExpress/
