For the first time since his arrest in October 2024, former Albanian President Ilir Meta appeared in public today at the first hearing of the foundation at the GJKKO. Inside the glass cage, after waving his fingers and making the eagle symbol, he also gave a short speech, saying that the process against him is rigged and against the state.
"I am in an unequal position. In an unequal position are those who were selected by Charles McGonigal to mount, with slander and lies, with false accusers, a shameful process against the Albanian state, not against Ilir Meta, the president, the speaker of the Assembly and the prime minister of the Republic. Therefore, I invite you from today to the second to broadcast this process live", said Ilir Meta.
Ilir Meta has been in prison since October 2024, and SPAK has charged him with corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, in connection with the Cez-Dia file and LSI lobbying in the US. His ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi is also a defendant, against whom there is a mandatory appearance order.
