Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of Defense, began his speech by saying that Operation "Epic Fury" touched him personally, because of his experience during the war in Iraq.
He said the Iranians are "racing towards building a nuclear bomb", adding that US President Donald Trump "will never allow this".
Hegseth says the mullahs know that their military is being “systematically degraded” and that Iran “stands alone and is losing badly.”
On the contrary, he says, America is “winning” and implementing its objectives to destroy its missiles, its navy, and “deny Iran nuclear weapons forever.”
He adds: "We will not surrender until the enemy is completely defeated."
He says that “this is not 2003 and it is not endless nation-building” in an attempt to shed light on the difference between this bombing campaign and previous US interventions in the Middle East conflict.
