Bad news just before the World Cup: Haris Tabakovic is suspected of having suffered a serious injury and is at risk of missing the World Cup with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to Bosnian outlet Klix.ba, the Borussia Mönchengladbach striker suffered a fractured ankle during the last Bundesliga match against TSG Hoffenheim. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the 31-year-old could require surgery and is expected to be out for three to six months. That would put an end to his dream of playing in the World Cup.
Tabakovic twisted his left ankle in the 72nd minute and was forced to leave the field.
"We had to replace him because of the injury. We still hope it's not something too serious and doesn't jeopardize the World Cup," coach Eugen Polanski said after the match.
The injury comes at a difficult time for Tabakovic, who has had a great season. Despite Borussia Mönchengladbach's struggles in the relegation race, he has scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 35 official matches. He was also crucial for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup qualifiers, scoring four goals, including the crucial equaliser in the play-off final against Italy, which ended 1-1.

However, a long absence could also affect his future at club level. Tabakovic is only on loan at Gladbach, while his card belongs to TSG Hoffenheim, where he has a contract until 2027.
It is still unknown whether he will have a place in Hoffenheim's plans. The club's sporting director, Andreas Schicker, said the one-year loan was the right decision for all parties.
"It was a very good decision to choose a one-year loan. We had a good conversation in July. Haris wanted more playing time and has done a great job at Mönchengladbach," said Schicker after the match against Gladbach.
"He will now return. We will see after the World Cup. Next season we will have more games and Haris is a player who brings qualities that we currently do not have in the squad. At the same time, this summer he enters the final year of his contract, so we have to weigh up all the options."
Tabakovic's good form has attracted interest from other Bundesliga clubs. According to reports, VfL Wolfsburg are seen as one of the possible candidates, if they manage to defeat SC Paderborn in the survival play-offs and stay in the elite of German football. /GazetaExpress/
