Parliament Speaker Albulena Haxhiu said that the Kosovo Liberation Army's war "was not aggression, but resistance."
She said that "any attempt to distort it" will be opposed, referring to the trial of former KLA leaders at the Special Court in The Hague.
"Any attempt to detach this war from its historical and political context risks distorting the reality of that time. There was so much faith in the justice of our war that the democratic world at the time intervened and later supported the independence of our country. We remember these truths because the people of Kosovo experience the Special Court as unjust, and this trial primarily because it ignores the very circumstances in which our liberation war took place," she said at the solemn session for Kosovo Independence Day.
