Germany has officially confirmed plans to help Ukraine with more than three Patriot air defense systems, underscoring increased European support in the face of intensifying Russian threats.
According to Reuters, a German government spokesman stated that European partners are contributing to the purchase of these systems for Ukraine, while NATO will not be directly involved in this initiative.
“From the EU's perspective, the talks are for more than three Patriot systems for Ukraine,” Reuters reports.
It is known that this week, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is in Washington to discuss the details of implementing the agreement – including how many systems will be delivered, who will administer them, and how they will be financed.
Recall that previously, it was reported that Germany would finance two Patriot systems and Norway another, while the latest data suggests that the country will benefit more.
It is reported that the spokesman also added that German authorities have noticed a "greater concentration of Russian troops", underlining that "we must strengthen Ukraine's defenses".
The development comes as Ukraine is facing intense air strikes from Russia and is urgently seeking aid to protect its infrastructure and civilian population.
