The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Maxime Prévot, delivered several important messages during his stay in Kosovo on Thursday.

After meeting with his counterpart Glauk Konjufca, he emphasized the need for political stability in Kosovo, while saying that the political crisis that has been plaguing the country since last year is sad.

"It is saddening for me to see the deadlines of Kosovo's institutions that you have been experiencing since last year. I would like to reaffirm my strong political support and long-term commitment to Kosovo. I hope for a rapid stabilization of the country's institutions. Political stability is key," he stressed.

Prevot expressed support for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, as well as obtaining the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union.

"I will actively advocate for your membership not in the future, but now. It is time," he said.

On the other hand, he also called for concrete steps to normalize Kosovo-Serbia relations, while emphasizing the need not to take unilateral steps in northern Kosovo.

“Belgium fully supports the EU-facilitated dialogue and calls for tangible progress on the Brussels and other agreements. It is also necessary for regional stability and Kosovo’s European future. Continued progress towards normalization requires sustained attention to reducing tensions, especially in the north, avoiding unilateral actions and protective measures for all communities and building trust. These efforts are fundamental for Kosovo’s path towards Europe and to benefit from EU support,” he said.
